Food has improved drastically in comparison 4-5 years back. Really spectacular lake views. Staff is helpful and menu is good California cuisine.

This place is awesome. The service is superb and the food and drinks are perfect! The Wet Woody is highly recommended and the scallops were cooked to perfection. If you're in the area and looking for a nice dinner, make sure you add this place to your list.

What the? How have I never been here before?!?!? As a California native, and lover of all things Tahoe, how is possible that it took me 25 years to finally find this place?!??! About two weeks ago, some girlfriends and I took a quick weekend trip up to Sunnyside. The girls kept saying "Wet Woodys" had to be part of the equation. We made a reservation for 6 at 12:30 and were seated almost immediately. The back patio is ABSOLUTELY the place to be! Hot sun, cool breeze, and even cooler drinks! 3 rounds of Wet Woodys later (I recommend the "classic" to begin with- but I like the Prickly Pear too) we were sufficiently buzzing. I can GUARANTEE we'll be back again!

One of my favorite restaurants, period. Every time I go to Tahoe, I make it a point to eat at Garwoods. If you have not been, GO! The food and service are excellent, the setting beautiful and the atmosphere is wonderful. Get there and eat, now! Quit reading this review and go. Why are you still reading this? Make a reservation, get in your car and go! Still here? GO, NOW!

Randomly stumbled to this place. It's got great views and service seemed real good. The food wasnt extraordinary, but I had fun there. Some local people even talked to us, so that was kinda cool. I think a lot of ppl complain about it being overpriced, but hello, it's a tourist trap dummy, its kinda the point... I walked in here knowing it was expensive, I mean it overlooks the lake. It's a great place for a drink and has nice views, the food isnt extraordinary, but i was fine with it.

Venue is great. Food was not. Go there for Wet Woody's. Skip the food. We had Crab Benedict which was over cooked and the hollandaise was barely there. The Crab was clearly not fresh. The Salmon sandwich special was also not fresh and was a Salmon patty, not a filet. Food zero stars. Wet Woody 4 stars. Location 5 stars. So I rounded up to two stars. Not a great experience despite a great location.

This place is PRIME after a day on the lake. Try the Wet Woody as a drink and the seafood tagliarini pasta dish was great. The view is awesome on their deck. If you end up eating there on the deck at night, they have heaters and a nice atmosphere outside. The service was good and this place is certainly worth checking out.

This place gets four stars for the Wet Woody Wednesdays and the boat access. The Wet Woody's are pretty good. We boat from the South Shore and tie up at the pier. You can't pay enough for this kind of lake experience. When we bring friends on our boat, this is one of our favorite places to take them. The food ... I think it's pretty good, but I can't say I am over the moon for it. My husband loves, loves their coconut shrimp. The service is okay. The hostesses usually make you think you aren't good enough to dine there and they may not have time for you. What's up with that? The servers can be lukewarm as well sometimes. I think that's a management issue. Trickle down attitude?

I had heard about this place and their world famous Wet Willys for so long and I finally had the opportunity to come here and I was not disappointed! The restaurant overlooks beautiful Lake Tahoe, they have an outside patio, they have live music and a ton of tvs to watch sports. Aside from the Wet Willys they had over two pages of speciality cocktails - yum! For lunch we had the fish tacos, not only delicious but a huge portion. We also shared the Shrimp and lobster bisque which was good although served just slightly cold. We also ordered the cheesy garlic bread and it was crispy flavorful and tons of garlic. We can't wait to come back here in the summer!

Played golf on Sunday 9/30 and 7 of us stopped by here for drinks and appetizzers around 7:00pm. The service was very slow, as we had to sit for awhile before our server took our order and delivered our drinks. The view was GORGEOUS! Appetizers were very good, but the selection is small for larger groups. As nice as the view is you pay for it in the price of the drinks and food... Expensive for what you get.

Gar Woods is home to the Wet Willy, a delicious rum drink, and about 10 other titilatingly titled drinks. I honestly could not believe the view of the lake. I mean I actually could not believe it. I had to be slapped to understand it was real. Everything was right - the food, the funny server, the ambiance, and even the slap.

We've enjoyed their sister restaurant in South Shore so we thought we would give this one a try on our way home from South Shore. It was a few months ago that we were there. It had been snowing in South Shore just a few days before, but this day was gorgeous !! Just one of those perfect days that you just have to stop and thank God for blessing you with it. So there we were on this glorious day sitting on the deck soaking in the beautiful screnary !! Such a gorgeous view...I never tire of the beauty of the lake. We ordered the grilled crab sandwiches and it was one of the best I've had. Our server was nice, the food was good and the view was spectular !!

wet woodys FTW! best place in north shore. make a reservation or come early to grab a table on the dock. the food is great. i recommend waiting for a table at the bar [inside or outside] so you can take advantage of the bar menu-- great small plates, more options and a lot more inexpensive. the views are amazing. you can eat here and stay all night sipping on their fabulous drinks, while enjoying the view and the great people watching. they usually have live music as well.

The view is certainly 5-stars -- right on the Lake. I have been here many times over the years and I expected to pay more because of the view. And the food is usually very good, however today I was disappointed. There were 12 of us. I shared a crab chile relleno and an order of fish tacos with a friend. I couldn't taste the crab and the relleno was barely warm. The flavor was good though. The tacos had a large piece of fish in each one, but the flour tortilla seemed dry as it cracked as it folded over. And the cabbage and sauce inside was minimal. The fish tacos at Sunnyside are MUCH better. And both entrees came plain -- no beans or rice or even a couple of colorful tortilla chips. A plain presentation. Each was around $16. The Wet Woody's, half price on Wednesday, were okay. It was Wednesday so they were $5 instead of $10. Price okay at $5, not worth it at $10 -- didn't taste or feel any liquor although there was a rum float on the top. And the drink is like a fruit flavored slushy -- easy brain freeze if you're not careful. Again, come for the views, but not necessarily for the food. However, we have come during the winter when the appetizers are half priced in the bar during Happy Hour -- now they are affordable and delicious and worth it!

We have been coming to Garwoods for years and have never been as disappointed. This time the noise level, food quality, and service were not acceptable. We came for lunch and we were in the open seating area. It took forever after we sat down for a server to show up and take our beverage order. Our food came quickly but our french fries were cold. The refills on our ice tea were almost non existent since we rarely saw our server after our food was served. When the noise level from the large party behind us escalated so we couldn't hear ourselves talk we went over the edge, so to speak. Very disappointed.

My wife and I ate here twice while on vacation. The first time we enjoyed it but weren't crazy about it. The second time we absolutely loved everything we had. The fish and chips were my favorite! And as far as the location...you can't top that view :) We'll be back!

I really like this place as a place, but the food is only so-so. However, I really like the outdoor seating. It's tricky to find boat parking on weekends, but regular parking is fine.

Great view and a wonderful lunch. Beautiful to sit outside and enjoy magnificent Lake Tahoe. Friendly and upbeat wait staff.

Ordinary. Lots of hype but pretty much a tourist restaurant - excellent view with pedestrian food. Wet Woody signature drink is a low alcoholic slurpy - beware of brain freeze. Not cheap.

We have gone to Garwood's for years. Food and service are consistently good. Food is always tasty but at a price point above what it should be at. Biggest gripe may seem trivial but...they have lots of chocolate in desert offerings. Reality is it is Hershey's. What happened to pride of creativity? I have spoken tom several times about how inconsistent this is with how they try to portray themselves, especially at the price point they are at. Homemade chocolate is easy to do and easily stored for later use or made on demand. Come on Garwood's! Complete the circle. Your new crab cakes are fantastic. The new ceaser salad should be called your lake tahoe ceaser. A traditional San Francisco ceaser it is not. In fact it might be refreshingly nice, but rename it to warn us.

  • Janet K.

Yes, it's a nice location/view. That's the only reason for the 2 stars. This is where the positive part of this review ends. We had substandard food which took 45 minutes to arrive. This place has been a very popular Tahoe restaurant for many years. At this point, they are resting on their laurels and have totally disregarded any idea of customer service or quality of food. The inside is looking pretty tired as well. Don't bother- there are much better places on the lake.

I took my wife to Garwoods, trying to impress her, on one of our first dates 28 years ago. It worked! Went back yesterday for the first time in a few years and it's still has an unbeatable location and view. For me the bigger difference was the food seemed better now. We went just at the end of the lunch rush, around 1:30, on Monday and had no problem getting a table. The patio, with best views during summer, is divided into a seat yourself section and a hostess seating section they both have exactly the same food, drinks and prices so opt for wherever you can get the first or best table. Our waitress was great, appearing at just the right moment every time we needed her. My wife had a Caesar salad with grilled salmon and I had the poke appetizer and fish tacos. All our food was excellent, my wife said hers was the best ever had I especially liked the poke with wasabi cream sauce, ask for extra! Also enjoyed the Wet Woody, don't plan on driving if you have 2. I'd have to say its a bit pricey but the view makes it worth it. Overall still and always a great place, highly recommend!

Went there with my fiancée over the Thanksgiving holiday. Atmosphere and staff are great. The food, could be considerably better. I ordered the peppercorn rib eye. Fiancée ordered some pork dish. My steak was bland with no flavor. I had to doctor it up with salt, pepper, and butter to give it some kind of flavor. Mashed potatoes were a bit thin/runny for my taste but again were bland. Lastly, the asparagus was cut in half. Really? Who does that? For a $40 plate give me all of it! Fiancée said hers was only saved by the sauce on the pork. The meat itself also with no flavor. Basically if you are going for the food, don't bother. It's not that great. The drinks, atmosphere, and service are excellent though! I have no problem paying for good food, but I won't be paying here again.

The food is okay, but you're really paying for the view. The three of us found out when we arrived that they were requiring reservations to sit on the right (nicer looking, including the outdoor seating) side of the restaurant, but we could sit on the left side. We were able to sit next to the window. As I said, the lake view was nice, though the interior (at least on the left side, where those of us who were not familiar with their reservations policy had been relegated to) was pretty bland. The waitress took forever to take our order and the food took a little bit too long, but otherwise the service was good, waters were refilled, requests were fulfilled in a timely manner. I ordered the Filet BBQ Bacon Burger and it was an impressive looking tall stack o' burger and onion ring, but no better than many burgers I've had for half the price. Granted, the onion rings inside were thick and delicious, but the burger was on the "well" side of medium-well, though I requested medium. It was still pretty good...just not $19 good. The burger was cheap compared to most of the entrees that were in the mid-$30s range. The fries that came with the burger were thin, textured, and had a nice crisp on the outside. Good fries. I asked for ranch on the side, and the ranch was fine. Nothing special (I've been surprised at a few places when I've asked for ranch and for whatever reason it turns out to be extra tasty - this was not one of those instances). I didn't order anything else, but my friend had some sort of strawberry mojito type drink, and that was very tasty, with a pleasing balance of strawberry, mint, and alcohol flavor. She ordered the lobster bisque, and that was surprisingly cheap ($8, I think), creamy and filling. Maybe that's the way to go if you want to come here but don't want to spend a lot of money. I probably wouldn't decide to come here on my own, but I would come here again if my friends were going, maybe just to get some soup and drinks.

After reading many mixed reviews we decided to give Garwoods a try for an early dinner on a Friday night. We were pleasantly surprised with everything. We were seated promply on the lower deck. We tried the Wet Woodys and they were great. One of our party members tried a moscow mule and it was served in a regular glass. We asked about the copper mugs and he said over the 4th of July they were all stolen by patrons of the bar. We ordered several appetizers of tuna, coconut shrimp and crab cakes. All were very good. Three people ordered the steaks and they were cooked to their liking which is big deal to my husband. I ordered the halibut and it was cooked to my liking and was very tasty. Another person had the chipolte chicken salad and was very tasty. We had a great evening and will come back next summer.

As others have said: Great View, Good Food, OUTRAGEOUS Prices. We only go on Wed. during happy hour else a single drink - with not as much liquor as they would have you believe - is over $11 Basically, for those with more money than brains.

This place gets one star for the FIVE STAR VIEW. I don't think there is a table in the restaurant that does not have a view. But it gets only one star because I could have stood outside the restaurant, admired the view, and then I could have had a much better lunch elsewhere. Three of us arrived for a late lunch, around 1:30 or 2. We were seated in a timely fashion and the server explained the specials. One of us ordered a beef dip type sandwich from the regular menu. I think it was supposed to be made with prime rib. It came well done, and I guess he liked it because he didn't complain, although, since he selected the restaurant, I wouldn't have expected any negative comments. The other guest and I had the special that was a salmon patty which was supposed to be crusted with pistachios and citrus and have ailoi and remoulade on a croissant. What came was a mushy mess after the first bite. The croissant was toasted, which takes away the yummy flakiness of the roll, however it improved the dish, since it was the only thing that had any crisp or crunch to it in the dish. It had lettuce and tomato (onion?). Pistachio and citrus were not detected in the flavor profile or the texture. The patty was total mush that fell apart after the first bite, making the sandwich more of a knife and fork affair. This was not an inexpensive restaurant and I expected more salmon than patty, but it was mostly just mushy filler. The ailoi and/or remoulade (why were both necessary?) made the mush tasty, though. When I asked my guest if she liked the dish, she said, "You were right when you said it was a hot mess. It wasn't what I expected, and I was really disappointed." If your GUEST is damning it with such faint praise (or, actually, no praise at all) you know it wasn't good. But if you want to go with two friends and spend $75 for the view, go ahead.

Would give zero stars if possible, bad food, and expensive. We sat out side for the view and half way through our meal the staff came by to close the umbrellas due to wind, as the closed the umbrellas, debris fell onto the table and plates, no "sorry" just "these umbrellas are expensive, we have to close them so that they don't get ruined in the wind." We are a family of 4 (2 adults, 2 children) lunch was $80 with no alcohol, very expensive for Kraft Mac'n'Cheese on the children's menu ($8), hubby had the fish and chips then spent the next 3 hours in the bathroom. You are better off getting a picnic lunch and hanging at the beach right next to Garwoods and enjoying the same view.

This was my wife's & my 1st visit to Garwoods after living in the area since 1997. We decided it would be a great place to celebrate our 17th wedding anniversary. We were not disappointed! We had a 3pm reservation (PERFECT time to get your pick of prime seating), our server Liza was great, even when we moved from indoor to outdoor patio seating, and the food was very good. Of course I had the Wet Woody and loved it. Coupled with a walk on the beach & enjoying the view from the pier, we couldn't have asked for a more romantic setting for our anniversary.

The food is great, but the prices are a tad high (only reason I'm giving it 4 stars). I'm a fan of their sister restaurant, Caliente, more than I am of Garwood's, but this place definitely has its own merits. The food has nice flavor, and the Wet Woody is just as yummy as Caliente's version. The deck is nice to get a table at on a beautiful Tahoe summer evening to watch the sunset as you eat. The place is always hoppin' though, so don't be surprised if you encounter wait times on a weekend or in the summertime. Overall, a pleasant dining experience with good service and yummy food, but it was always a "treat" to go here as the bill is pricey!

My friends and I decided to try this place out for dinner. We could tell it was busy due to all of the vehicles parked outside but we decided to go in anyway. We walked up the steps and saw people standing in line and so we waited in line too thinking we would be seated in order. As we were standing there waiting our turn a table opened up right next to us and a group came from the bar area and attempted to grab the table right before the next group waiting in line could be seated. At this point I expected the wait staff to take control and make things right but that didn't happen. Come to find out the restaurant has no policy where the first party in line is the first to be seated. The patrons are left to fight it out amongst themselves for a place to sit. To top it all off the restaurant started putting reserved signs on the tables outside which only made the whole situation that much worse. We didn't feel like we were going to get a place to sit any time soon and we were all hungry so we turned around and left. I will not be patronizing this establishment ever again. There are too many other places to eat to waste your time and money on a place that does not value their customers enough to treat them fairly.

Don't expect a great dining experience. Expect a bar where they happen to serve food. It says something when the menu is 3 pages of drinks and 1 page of appetizers, entrees, salads and desserts. We sat on the patio for lunch where it was windy, crowded, and noisy. We witnessed bus boys close a patio umbrella on customers' heads, a waitress asking us if we wanted to keep the umbrella open only to do the opposite of what we requested, a waitress drop a plate of food on top of another customer's head, and we experienced firsthand an elbow to the my mom's head, once to my sister's head and twice to mine. Maybe if I was intoxicated, it would have helped... + Caprese Shooter $9.99: 4 shot glasses filled with strawberries, a balsamic vinegar reduction, basil and fresh mozarella. It was fresh and pretty good. +/- Chipotle Chicken Salad $16.99: With all that said, the salad was pretty tasty and fresh (corn, avocado, except I would have expected this salad to cost $12.99. I suppose we were buying the view of the lake? One scary thing: one of the chicken skewers was undercooked.

Great place for drinks, not for dinner. Drinks are always strong and good (the Wet Woody is the must-have) but the food is definitely below average at best.

Great view combined with really poor service (what do you do when you catch your waitress forgetting your drink order and then sneering at you when she brings it). This is a great example of a restaurant who has an envious ambiance because of being on a gorgeous lake milking it with average food and hiring people with attitude. Avoid it unless you really have to see the lake (in which case, rent a kayak). Thumbs down.

  • Amanda D.

Seriously one of the WORST dining experiences ever! First of all when we sat down there was old red onion slices and lettuce on the floor by my feet... apparently no one bothered to sweep the floor after the lunch crowd. gross. The food is not cheap to say the least... with the entrees going from 30 - 40 dollars, everything better be absolutely delicious and beautiful. Not the case... everything looked like a sloppy disaster and tasted worse. I've seriously never had such disgusting food in a restaurant... it was like bad diner, but 5 times the price. I'm almost positive my mashed potatoes came out of a box, and my braised beef short ribs were hardly edible. Everyone else picked at there food and had looks of disappointment on their face. For four people and a couple cocktails, our bill came out to 200 dollars and no one left happy. This is my first time writing a review for a place I didn't like, but I just had to as this was such a disappointment. Bottom line - this place is a disgrace. Just because you have a location on the water does not mean you can charge 40 dollars for a horrible sloppy plate of food. I will never go back.

This place is for tourists who want a view of the lake and want to get sloshed on Wet Woodies. Not a good value in anyone's book. At one time it was a decent place and a reasonable value for Tahoe. Not now and has not been for some time. We eat at home or go to Reno if we want a decent meal. Or San Francisco. Good thing I know how to cook and like doing it. Tahoe restaurants for the most part leave a lot to be desired. Not all but most.

Ok, the view is beautiful but the food is reallybland and boring. Had the crab relleno which sounded amazing, but the crab was fishy, and the sauce was basically tomato sauce. We had salads with the blandest salad dressing ever, everyone just pushed them aside. Lamb chops overcooked, boring steak. Only the person who ordered scallops was happy, and there were 8 of us. The deserts were over the top sweet. I love bread pudding, but theirs was a glob of sickeningly sweet mush.

Had a nice lunch with friends enjoying the beautiful view on a clear blue sunny winter day. The wet woody is a must try but make sure you bring a designated driver, they are potent. The food is decently prepared if not all that inventive but tasty nonetheless. Seating near the windows is uncomfortably warm even in winter when the sun is out and the heaters are on so dress in layers. Service was friendly and attentive even when very busy. It's a bit on the expensive side for what you get but the view is worth it.

Absolute best view i've eaten at in all of Tahoe so far... Was here for a wedding and the service and food were fantastic... :) Was actually so good we came back in the morning the next day (brandishing hangover) and had an amazing brunch! Breakfast menu was a little small and could have had more on it... nonetheless it was fantastic and the view like i said was incredible... A must when on in Tahoe! P.S. drinks were on point as well! Au'rai! 5 SHAKAS!

Went for lunch. Service was good, but the food was OK. It was just way too expensive for what we ordered. I had a cob salad and an ice tea. My friend had fish tacos and a beer. $30.00 a person plus tip. I guess you pay for the view?

Food can be good but pricey; great view. Watch out though if you don't drink; they add a fee for not drinking alcohol! (Tab for two for dinner was $80 and the fee was $3.95.)

Beautiful setting, definitely one of the higher tiers of restaurants north shore has to offer. Food was good, a little expensive but good, and the drinks were spot on amazing. Ordered: Coconut Shrimp- 4/5 stars, fresh large shrimp, nice marmalade sauce. Lobster Bisque-5/5 stars, brilliantly rich, well balanced with sherry. Crusted Halibut Special- 3/5 Stars, well presented, a little on the dry side with no type of sauce to tie it all together. Ribeye- 4/5 Stars, perfectly cooked, but the sauce over powered it and stole some of the meaty show. Would come back but probably just for the awesome drinks and maybe some apps. Oh yea, servers are prompt and professional.

We've held two private events here in their upstairs dining rooms and both went very well. One was a birthday party for 40 or so guests. We had a seafood platter and grilled vegetables appetizer and it was ample and delicious. The sit-down dinner was well-prepared and tasty. Wait staff were attentive and quick. The view from the second floor private dining rooms is excellent. The second major event was our wedding dinner for 45 guests. We worked closely with their banquet manager Amy who was very pleasant and accommodating. The food was again excellent and staff again responsive. Though I'm not at all impressed with their signature "Wet Woody" drink (think slurpee with rum), their regular restaurant menu is very good. Garwoods isn't cheap, but the value-for-money is good given the good quality of the food, attentive service, and lakeside views. Worth it for a special meal or event.

I had one of the worst meals of my life there July 3rd 2014. Where do I begin:- 1.My party and I made a reservation for the deck 3 days in advance and ended up sitting inside, even though there were several tables on the deck with no-one on them. 2. My 13 month old daughter had $10 macaroni and cheese (expensive for a kids menu) that was cold. 3. When we asked to talk to the manager because of general dissatisfaction we got to talk to a lady that wasn't a manager who did her best but tried to sweet talk us by offering free drinks and salad - not really what we were looking for! 4. Whilst talking to this lady, a member of our party had to wait an extra 10 minutes for their 'special' that looked more like I'd spewed on a plate. 5. My wife went to talk to a manger as we left - a small man with clear little man syndrome - who was very condescending and very blasé about our bad experience. After years of my extended family attending this place, it's safe to say we won't be returning FOREVER!!!! I know that management won't really care about 1 dissatisfied family but we'll be sure to tell everyone we know about our very poor experience.

Beautiful location. Unfortunately this place is run by a bunch of kids. No attention to detail. They are standing around chatting, watching TV and texting while blocking restroom access - which were filthy! Good food, but too pricey for such inexperienced servers. Wines served way way too warm.

Gar Woods is the perfect spot to hit up to be social, relax, and have a few drinks after a day of enjoying beautiful Lake Tahoe. A classic cheeseburger topped with American cheese, lettuce, tomato, red onion, mustard + ketchup, and tasty bacon hits the spot. Amongst char-burgers the execution is one of the better that I've ever had. However, a juicier patty post-charring would have put this burger into the elite. The flavors in the toppings combine very well and remind me of a backyard grill. The major draw at Gar Woods are the drinks and good company to share a meal and conversation with. Gar Woods can get quite busy and is the place to be in summertime Lake Tahoe.

Beautiful location on the edge of Lake Tahoe. You can even arrive by boat! We popped in for their signature "World Famous Wet Woody"cocktali at sunset and snacked on their zucchini sticks. This rum beverage was lethal, delicious and sweet - two of them could easily put you over the edge. Sure, zucchini sounds healthy, but not the way these tasty breaded babies are made. Dipping them in the ranch dressing makes all the difference. Service was delightful. The place was hopping with lots of pretty people decked out in amusing Western garb for a fundraiser upstairs, so we enjoyed the view inside and out. Drink up the scenery and choose one of the 19 summer Woodys to quench your thirst at this fun, laid back restaurant.

Spring day at the lake, fantastic shrimp tacos & fish n chips, great Margaritas... Can't fault the dining experience, ambience and service. We make this a regular stop each year, and it is one of the best combinations of restaurant and view on the lake.

We drove about an hour to the restaurant and it was well worth it. I made reservations online (plus in my book) and we ended up getting there about 30mins early and they accommodated us and gave us a great table (plus)! The restaurant is on North Lake Tahoe and has beautiful views. Staff were all friendly. Food: We started with and shared the french onion soup sans croutons to be gluten free, main plates were the cobb salad (for me) and Alaskan Salmon (for my husband) both dishes were great. Cocktails: I started with a lemon drop one of the best I've had, and ended with a wet woody (shared with husband). I would recommend either. Next time were in town, we will be back.

Service is horrible. Stopped in at 3:30 pm for an appetizer and drink with my husband. Half hour before we got served and I never did get my drink. Location is beautiful, though.

Gar Woods is definitely a must whenever I'm in North Lake Tahoe. The deck dining offers an absolute gorgeous view of the Lake and the service is always super friendly. I'd give it 5 Stars but the prices for drinks and appetizers is outrageous. I understand it's the tourist season but gee wiz... My buddies and I just started going to North Shore for our annual Fantasy Football Draft and will be sure to visit Gar Woods as our new tradition for Friday afternoon drinks.

Well, we were in Tahoe for my buddies bday and we just had to try out these Wet Woodies, they were delicious, however expensive, kinda like their menu, but well worth it. The staff was very helpful and attentive. I would also have to give a shout out to the good looking females working around the bar...Grrrr....we had a great time and I can only imagine what this place would be like during the summer!!

Nice ambiance, excellent service, beautiful log cabin style restaurant with an incredible view that I couldn't see because it was too dark. Sadly, the food was largely mediocre. Anything with crab tasted like old whitefish, the salad was wilted, the meat was chewy, and things were made with obviously low quality and cheap ingredients. I didn't stay for dessert.

I was a little surprised that on a Friday afternoon about 1:30pm we were told we had to have a "reservation" to sit out on the patio for lunch. I could have sworn I saw people come in after us that were going to be seated inside, like we were, but ended up outside. None the less - we had a great server who treated us well so that made up for it. The drinks are expensive (you should know this when they prices are listed on the menu, be prepared for about $11-12) but it was my birthday and we were wanting to just have some good food and drinks, which we did. I highly recommend the dungeness crab sandwich if you want to splurge - it was huge and filled with so much crab I couldn't finish it! My friend got the crab chile relleno and other friend got the clams from the appetizer menu and raved about those as well. Overall it was ok as a splurge to do now and then - which is about how often we make it to the Tahoe area.

Food is fair at best. Their "woody" drinks are good, but ridiculously priced. They help pay for the lake view, that's about it. $15.50 for a normal one! FYI! We just had the artichoke appetizer, and it was the 2nd best I've ever had! Delicious! But been here a few other times, and their lunches are almost fair. Nothing more, nothing less. By far not the best. Service is always decent though! If your looking for a view, this is the place! But if your a foodie etc, go elsewhere!

The wet woodies amazing! Foods amazing! Husband and I took our younger couple friends here for dinner and as always amazing! Service amazing! Everyone has the slightly laid back feel of Tahoe.

Not a bad seat in the house at this iconic lakeside restaurant. Extensive menu of seafood, steaks, and pasta. Casual and pricey--worth every penny.

I was hosting a fellow manager from work nearby but was too beat to cook, so we ended up here for dinner. I'd heard about it from my cabin-mates and was looking forward to trying it. I was not prepared for the atmosphere, which is an easy 11 on a scale of 10. Beautiful, well-lit, with a beautiful view of the lake. Crowd mixed, older/younger, families, couples, and singles at the bar. Now I had heard that the steak here was good so I ordered the filet medium rare. One expects filet to be tender but this one was mushy. It was served on a bed of pureed potatoes that seemed equally gross. For $40 I expect better. A lot better. That said, the appetizers we had were good (ribs and poke) and the wine prices are insanely low. I think if I went back I would look through the reviews before ordering.

Another spot not to miss in North Lake Tahoe. Lunch on the deck with the views of the Lake are awesome. Great drinks and food. Dinner was also very good. I recommend this place for sure.

Garwoods is a great place to spend some time and have a nice meal or relax and hang out.. Their Happy Hour is a great deal. I Also just enjoyed their spirit of the month, which is also a good deal. Their live Music is also fun for kids (early) or adults a later in the evening. The singer last week was exceptional. Dinner is pretty good, but the wait staff is always very professional, attentive and fun. Lindsey was our server the other night and she adds an extra star to the overall rating.

Obviously - you cannot beat the view! Went here in the winter and it was a gorgeous clear day. Loved being able to look out and see the lake or watch the game and not have to choose! The drink selection is extensive, but pretty pricey. The food was good bar food - if I had been served the same thing in the dining room I would have been disappointed. Haha. The services was great! The staff helped us find the game we were trying to watch and were very attentive to us. Overall good! Go and enjoy the views and the drinks.

Good food, not so wonderful service. We decide to pay a visit to Garwoods Sunday of Labor Day weekend. The hostesses were not seating anyone in the dining room without a reservation, and were very abrupt when they shared that information. We ended up on the self seated patio with a lovely view of the lake, but it was very crowded. The food was overpriced, but the drinks were good. I would probably skip the opportunity to dine there again, and opt to BBQ at home.

To summarize my experience here I would say: delicious, not super unique, but hit the spot. This is a great place to go after some time on the lake. I came with some friends and we ordered a pitcher of one of their mixed drink seasonal specialties, the Wet Woodie, (which was delicious) and then I got fish and chips which was super fresh and good. The quality of the fish was superb and it was fried to perfection. The staff was very nice, but overall, I felt like the place was a bit of a tourist trap. The food was really good, don't get me wrong, but don't come here looking for something unique and different. If you come expecting a good meal at a slightly inflated price, then you will be happy with your experience.

Our server was great, food came out in a timely manner. It should be noted the Wet Woody pitchers are $40 for about 3-4 drinks which we ordered after the wonderful testimony from our server and a customer passing by. We didn't glance at the menu before ordering 2 (for 8 people) thinking it would be $20-30. Totally our fault, just be aware this place is a little pricey. The Wet Woodys were good, just not $40 good. I ordered the bacon cheese burger which was good, but not $20 good. Overall, great view, good service, alright food for a high price which I suppose is to be expected around Lake Tahoe.

Wow... watch out for those Wet Woodys, they sneak up on you! This restaurant has a great location, complete with a dock. We stopped by for lunch and I discovered they had a veggie burger that wasn't on the menu. It was fantastic. Great fries too. Fun bar, great staff, and an excellent view of the lake. Just be ready to call a cab if you're gonna order a second round of Woodys!! The frozen beverage packs quite the punch.

Summary: Way overpriced for the quality of greeting, service and food received!!! Whoa! What a let down. Garwoods has always delivered on good food and friendly service. Not this trip. We made reservations 3 months in advance, and confirmed them 2 weeks ago. Was a party of 10 for special occasion. We asked to be seated on the deck with the lake view. Although they said they can't guarantee the seating, they would do their best. We were greeted by a young lady with a snippy attitude. When we asked for the deck seating, she replied that people out there all made reservations? Like yes, we did 3 months ago. So, no place out on deck, and we ended up being seated indoors. The food was mediocre at best. Halibut was super dry, coconut prawns were over fried, and the pork tenderloin was overcooked also. What a poor experience. The other glaring main issue is that the prices are in the stratosphere. The fish entrees and specials were in the $38-$39.50 range ala cart. Other entrees were in the high $20s. So, if you look at the overall picture, Garwoods missed. No repeat for this customer, for sure!!!

I loved this place. Service was excellent, food was to die for, Wet Woody drinks were so awesome. They were super busy and still everything ran like clockwork. I loved their coconut prawns, and their burgers were awesome. I like the atmosphere there. It was a great experience and I recommend this place highly. Great job Gar Woods! I will be back.

This one star is only for Cali the boat pier "receptionist". Management, get this gal off your dock! We were greeted by Blake when we pulled our boat up. He pleasantly greeted us, said Garwoods was full but there should be room shortly. No problem, we waited. Shortly after, he said follow me and I'll put you on a buoy that's about to become free. Ok, followed him. Then Cali starts screaming at us (not exaggerating) from the pier, "YOU ARE NOT NEXT!!!!" We said, "yes, we are, Blake said we were and he told us to follow him". She continued to yell "YOU ARE NOT, AND YOU DIDNT TALK TO ME FIRST!!!" Apparently, we missed the big sign on her shirt, "TALK TO ME FIRST OR I'LL BITE YOUR HEAD OFF". We were stunned. Blake apologized and we moved to the side and waited. Her attitude and embarrassing public attack was so unnecessary and uncalled for. Where's her training? Just to clarify, we are not a boat full of trouble making punks. We are a family who are well acquainted with the courtesies of boating, docking, etc. We've been going to Garwoods for over 20 years and had our wedding rehearsal there. No one deserves to be treated like Cali chose to do so. For those just looking for a food review. As other reviewers have mentioned, it's insanely overpriced but the view is beautiful and service and food is better than Sunnyside.

We showed up with a group of 13 for a late lunch. We were seated right away and had a great time. The food, drinks and service were all top notch. The Wet Woody is a drink that can sneak up on you for sure so be careful. I had the shrimp and lobster bisque. It was thick creamy and delicious. The salads are huge and fresh. The burgers looked great, but I did not have a taste of them. The views of the lake are fantastic and I recommend walking out on the public pier. If you are looking for a great place to enjoy delicious food and drinks on the water Garwoods is the place.

Have been taking the family to Tahoe for years and have always wanted to try Garwoods. Made an Opentable reservation for 5 and got to the restaurant 10 minutes early. We ended up waiting an hour for our table! Other than the long wait and $$ of food, the service and food quality were good. I had the grilled Ahi Tuna and it was cooked perfectly. My son had their burger and he said it was great. Our server gave us free wet woody gold coins to compensate us for the long wait. I appreciated the effort to make up for the long wait. Our server took our order quickly and food came out pretty fast too. I'll give them another chance next time we're in Tahoe, but I think I'll make an earlier reservation next time.

View is great, service was also very good even with a server in training. We made reservation for dinner, ordered wine-decent wine, list. The wife ordered filet, with scrimp and mash potatoes -about $39.00 totally not worth it filet was just ok and served swimming in soggy mash potatoes-the bar is set pretty low to pass this off as fine dining. I ordered salmon -again mediocre not worth $34.00. I will be back for view, drinks and perhaps burger or sandwich.

The deck at Garwood's has a beautiful view of the lake, I will give it that. Does that warrant charging $18.00 for a french dip? Maybe, if it were the best we'd ever had. The meat was unevenly sliced, under-seasoned, and the pile of fries was tiny. We also ordered a caesar salad, which had some sort of capers that were a rubbery texture, watery dressing, and instead of croutons mixed there were two little disks of plain baguette- also not seasoned. The french onion soup was the best part of the meal. We also had to wait about 8 minutes before greeted by servers, while we watched other families be greeted almost instantly. i hope it wasn't because we happened to be the only gay couple adorned with tattoos, thus making us a last priority. The "wet woody" drink menu was so tongue-in-cheek as far as sexual innuendo goes that were offended, and we're pretty open-minded as far as these things goes. i can't believe this menu sits out on the table for children to read. Drinks called "Black Strap-on Top" and "Morning Wood" to name only a few. If you feel like spending $50 for a mediocore lunch, it's worth if you want a view of the lake. On the other hand, I'm sure there are plenty of other restaurants with this quality where the food is decently priced, or at least worth what you're spending. We don't be back.

Garwoods is one of my favorite restaurants up at the Lake (disclaimer: my husband and I were married on the dock at Garwoods, so that sentimental value adds a lot to my favor for this place). My husband and I had dinner here over Fourth of July weekend. I called and made reservations a couple of weeks in advance. We were seated as soon as we arrived. The view from Garwoods is amazing. Absolutely amazing. Try to sit out on the patio or upstairs right along the windows. I ordered the scallops, and they were cooked perfectly. My dish was amazing--I definitely recommend it. My husband ordered the chicken Caesar salad which left a lot to be desired. I recommend skipping that. Our server was nice, but not too nice which is just right for us that night. Definitely order a Wet Woody. We went with the original deal, but they have a few variations that look just as tantalizing. We were there on a Friday and they had some live music downstairs which was fun. Make sure that you head out to the dock to enjoy the view and take some photos after your dinner!

Great lakeside location but honestly just a terrible steak. Overcooked, seasoned poorly and even charred. Was really just a bad steak ! Reports were the salmon was average as well.

Great views. Mediocre, uninspired food. Service was friendly, but slow. It's a loud touristy place that has a lot of potential. I'm sorry to say it did not meet my expectations. We left after the appetizer course.

filet bbq bacon burger is super good. cooked to order! incredible views. staff is very professional and accommodating. Beer is cold w/frozen glass. nice pier to venture out on. great solid stop for one or a group:) you pay a few extra bucks per dish but it is worth it with location and views along with staff.

Location is lovely, so was our waitress-but that is all that was lovely about Gar Woods. Very disappointing. Hostess, and barmaid were slow and disinterested with this middle-aged group. Restaurant was filthy, floors really gross, women's bathroom looked as if it hadn't been cleaned all day and the entry door wouldn't closed, so female patrons were very exposed in the restroom. That being said, the food was fair+, VERY overpriced based on the state of the restaurants cleanliness and staff attitudes. This includes their wine/beverage list. I agree with Allen T's 7/11/14 review, we too had ordered the 18 oz. steak with high expectations only to be disappointed by quality of meat. Would NOT recommend, nor will we ever go back--huge disappointment--for the amount of money we spent.

This restaurant was rocking during the 4th of July holiday. Too bad the food we had wasn't as well. The food was not bad, but for the price, it should have been rock star quality, but it was not. We had patio seating, which was nice. Great day to be outside, and the whole area was covered in umbrellas, so you are free to enjoy your meal without melting in the sun. We both had the **Dungeness Crab Sandwich**, and it looked yum, but the flavor was dull. Such a disappointment. I was really looking forward to it, because for $18.00, I was expecting some wow. I actually wonder if the temperature the crab was served at muted the flavors, because I finished the rest of the sandwich about an hour later during the car ride home, and it definitely tasted much better. Not $18.00 better, but I could definitely taste the flavors and they were good. The service is 5 stars. The servers were very friendly, and the manager was super pleasant to us when we were leaving. Lots of potential here! But, since we're in the area only occasionally, we'll probably be checking out other restaurants.

I always stop here on my first night on the North Shore of Lake Tahoe. This beautiful evening my server Madison paired the crab cakes with a bottle of the Girard cabernet. Wow! We both agreed the combo was beyond freaking amazing. Madison let me try three different wines before choosing the cab, she and stopped by my table about 8 times to see how I was doing. She earned very penny of her $20 tip. You can't beat the nice folks, great vibe and the breathtaking lake-view dining at Garwood's. ! It's like partying with family. I can't say enough good things about Garwood's perfect venue and warm staff. Enjoy! ~ Mars

Dirty... My knife still had food on it, waiter was intoxicated, dirty water glasses and way over priced. Best for them just to serve hamburgers instead of trying to be the 'pretty, new type of food presentation' kind of food. Ceiling was filthy and appeared to have food stuck on ceiling. Should have left the minute we sat down but didn't. Won't be back. Probably good in its day.

We made a lunch reservation for my husband's birthday. Specifically requested a nice table outside because we've been here before and we know how busy it can get, especially on a nice, sunny day. Long story short: reservations are meaningless. Don't waste your time. We got to the hostess station and got the exact same story as the non-reserved folks in front of us. Immediate seating available inside, 30 minute wait for outside. Birthday Boy elected to wait, so we hung out and nursed our drinks in the bar area (noisy!). Service in the bar was great considering how busy and crowded it was. Food is quite good (though expensive). Table service is good. Hostesses are inexperienced. I just upped my review from 3 to 4 stars because once a table was ready it was one of the very best in the house with a perfect view, and the hostess apologized for the wait. I just upped it again from 4 to 5 stars because they brought us a free slice of ice cream cake (delicious!). That was above and beyond. We'll be back for the food, scenery & service.

Nice dinner place with great views and very good service. The dinner menu is somewhat pricey, but, unlike most upscale places, this one includes some less expensive choices like a burger, crab sandwich, etc. So it's a good compromise if members of your party have different proclivities. Food was good. Especially enjoyed the French onion soup.

My wife and I came over for a date night and the service was outstanding. Our server, Shane (not sure if I'm spelling it right) was by far the best. She was super knowledgeable about everything on the menu, but the best part was not feeling rushed at all. We were able to sit, enjoy the views and enjoy the great food. I also enjoyed the Wet Woodies made by the bartender, Billy. I had two, which was one more than I needed. I really want everyone to know that this place is a great restaurant and has a really fun atmosphere. Give it a try the next time you are up at the lake, I think you will like it as much a we did.

Our lunch yesterday was not up to other experiences we have had at Gar Woods but that may have been because Ashton picked the fried egg BLT and while tasty was not outstanding. My steamed clams with garlic bread were good but I have had better. Our server was excellent. We had a table for 2 on the upper tier that gives the best view of the Lake and next time we go back.. yes indeed we will, I'm going to try the Crab Chili Relleno. The Bar is pretty happening and you can dine in there as well. There really isn't a bad seat in the house and now that the weather is warming the deck is a fine place to dine as well.

Two words. Wet Woody. I haven't quite grasped what makes a Wet Woody, but is some kind of devilish slushie goodness packed with rum. It is what sins are make of and by lord, I love it. With a variety of Wet Woody's to choose from, you will leave Garwoods utterly sated and slurring your words. Magical. If you don't drink (which is something I don't condone), Garwoods offers far more than just addicting cocktails. The view is simply outstanding. It sets the mood for any event, whether it be an intimate date for two, a night out with friends or a casual family dinner. My only critique is the food. For what you spend, it certainly isn't mind blowing. I would order a few of the appetizers and share instead of ordering main meals. The crab cakes are delicious! All in all, Garwoods is a winner. It certainly has my stamp of approval.

  • AMber W.

Two Words: Wet Woody Enjoy a delicious wet woody (a tasty frozen drink) in like a gazillion ways... I personally am partial to the "kraken head" because it is a little sweeter than some of the other variations. Honey sweet, not sugar sweet. I've also enjoyed the Stiffest. Beware though - these things are not cheap. I think they are like $12 each, but they pack a ton of liquor so you won't need more than two. Believe me. Especially if you are heading up the windy roads. Nothing better than a wet woody on the back deck overlooking Tahoe. Pack your sunscreen!!!

So my husband and I go to Tahoe as many times in the year that we can, and NEVER for the food. We have always found the restaurants in the Tahoe ares to be expensive and not anything to write home about. We stumbled on Garwoods this weekend by and mistake with the rental company that we had our cabin rented through and the service was TERRIBLE. Took a good, 5 minutes to be seated (it was not busy at all) and at least 20 minutes to be asked for drinks. I was starving and it took the waitress another 15 to take our orders. But the food. Oh the food! The crab cakes were EXCELLENT. I had the cobb salad and it was equally as delicious, my guy got the french dip and it was so tender and delicious. We went again for our anniversary dinner and brought our own wine (the drinks are astronomically expensive) the service was decent.. Nothing fabulous. We were rushed out even though they didn't close until 10. We left around 9 and our reservations (which they had down wrong) were at 8. We got the boot!

wet woody's are the boozy shizz! im talking about a blend of rums including the notorious 151 cleverly hidden in a deliciously frozen strawberry orange starburst smoothie concoction with an additional rum floater. I had an original one and a raspberry one, both were fantastic but the raspberry tasted much stronger with the addition of malibu. Word of advice, these are strong and catch up suddenly so watch out if you're driving. When we got our check I was shocked to see that they were 10 for the original and 15 for the flavored one. But, on wednesdays they have half off wet woodys so definitely worth checking out. Also, lake views from the deck are beautiful and a great way to enjoy a beautiful day in tahoe.

  • Tim A.

Dinner menu overpriced! Bar menu ok and deck is great for a summer time bite. Avoid in winter because your just buying the view which you can't see. Also, the menu has not changed in over a year and many times they are out of dishes and they don't know what a Caesar salad is (really sun dried tomatoes). Bottom line stop for a drink when it is still light out and stop at that! Suggest owner (Tom Turner) needs to pay attention to this location! It obviously is missing!

We stayed in Tahoe for a mini vacation this summer. We had our boat out on the lake and a friend recommended that we try Garwoods. We boated over and found a buoy to tie our boat to. This girl came over in a zodiac and picked us up and drove us to the dock. That was very nice and way convenient. The food was good, but we felt that the prices were inflated for the quality. Our lunch for a party of 4 was $120 and my kids ordered fish & chips, and soup and salad. The service was good, and everyone seemed to be having a goodtime. We ordered a couple of "Wet Woody's" because they were half price on wednesdays. The place was fun and we will definitely come back.

Our first visit was a 4 star rating, but on our return visit a few days later, it earned less than 1 star becuse of a very bad experience in the bar. The waitress made no apologies for the incorrect information about Happy Hour causing us to order more expensive cocktails ($5 vs $10). When we pointed out the error, my drink was replaced with the house liquor, and my call drink was poured out. The waitress deliverd my replacment drink saying "here's your $5 drink". Needless to say, we did not stay for dinner.

Great view, food is good but the service is so so. We had reservations for 10 n when we arrived we only had 8. The hostess said they didn't have our table ready yet and the we could take open seating for right now, we crammed ourselves into a table that was set for 6. Later we asked for our table and we were told that the table we were at was as good as it gets that is is no tables for 8 let alone 10. Our waitress was dressed in dirty clothes and looked like she hasn't seen a clothes washer in a few weeks. Her attitude was I'm cute look at me, when she gave us our bill we questioned some items and she just laughed and said "I'm sorry I forgot to tell you that extra fee" . We really liked the place but the attitude will keep us from going back.

Nice place to grub and drink to absorb the beauty that is Lake Tahoe. Came by for some pitchers of Wet Woodies, which are rum slurpees that keep you refreshed in the summer heat. These drinks are packed with sugar and alcohol that creeps up fast. Take it slow and you can also avoid the brain freeze. Nice indoor bar with TVs or enjoy the outdoor patio with a view.

dropped by early at the beginning of lunch. Looked at the menu and it was appealing in spite of it being overpriced. Ambience?... fantastic! Then we were greeted by our server, pleasently! Ordered the prime rib french dip. it was supposed to come with horseradish sauce. It came on time I have to say but without HR sauce which I really enjoy with PR. I asked the server if she could bring me some and she said she'd be right back... 10 minutes later after she made numerous trips to the beautiful patio, I finally went in to ask for some. I found a mgr and to make a long story shorter , Ten minutes inside got me a side. Sandwich cold, small handful of fries (tasty i must say, but another small serving), friends done eating and now i'm eating a cold french dip with no more than 4oz. of meat and one slice of grueyre, rather dissapointed. Make that incredibly! As a former restrauteur of 25 years I must forgive the waitress and the "cook". If there is ever anything wrong it is always the fault of management! There are primarily three things to focus on in any F&B establishment... Service, Product and ambience. You must have two of the three to rate. The service, friendly but clearly untrained and un attentive (management)! The ambience ... Fabulous! The product? just above institutional! in conclusion... two french dips, fish tacos, zuchhini app, coffee,oj, one wet woody (tasty) and an iced tea $100+ ! for lunch?! This is clearly a corporate, cookie cutter establishment focused on bottom line, long gone laurels and piss poor ownership and management in a world class location. What a terrible shame!!! I'll never be back! Michael N.

Ate last night and it was great! Our sever Michelle was awesome, gave great suggestions and was really attentive. We ordered the ribeye, bacon cheeseburger, and Niçoise salad and all was delicious!!! A little bummed they ran out of the special but what we ordered was great!

Went last night for dinner and had so much fun! Food was good and service better. Our servers name was Michelle she was really nice and easy to talk to. Loved the burger and salads, she wasn't even mad when we stole bread sticks from another table. Everything was great but gross that they all wear skirts. Also, I think the deviled eggs gave me gas but that's a personal problem!

Doesn't get much better than Garwoods on a summer afternoon. This place has awesome food and it is right on the north shore of Lake Tahoe. What else can you ask for? Oh... maybe an amazing cocktail called the Wet Woody. Their concoction of rum yumminess brings my honey and I back to this place over and over. I haven't tried anything bad on the menu as of yet. The service is friendly. Not very fast but that is ok because this place will make you want to relax and unwind. Plus they supprt the Nevada Wolfpack so that makes them even better. :) This would be a great location for a wedding or an event.

Rolled in here over the weekend, with a group of about 40. They actually reserved several outside tables for us at the last minute, offering terrific views of the lake. Food was good, service was competent, beers were cold and laughs were plenty. If you like peanuts then check out the barrel at the end of the deck. Just don't throw your shells on the floor cuz' this ain't no cowboy bar y'all. We shared a nice house salad with balsamic vinaigrette, halibut special and a few Blue Moons. Just remember that the view is factored into the menu prices, so for those on a budget, I think it's worth the lunch splurge, if not then there's no shortage of less expensive local eateries with a view.

Fast and friendly service. Great view right on the beach. The food was very good but pricey. Worth a try.

Family favorite for 20 years, but boy has this place gone down hill! My last visit brought not one, but two merch stations including thong underwear for sale. What happened to this once classic & classy restaurant? So sad.

  • Jason W.

I had breakfast there this past weekend with some friends and this place is cool. Its right on the lake and the entire wall on the water's side is glass so everyone has a view. The food is a bit pricey, but good. I think if it were a hot summer day coming here for drinks and appetizers may be more what they're know for because their specialty drinks sounds amazing. Worth a stop if you're in Tahoe.

Perhaps the total experience made the five star review. Team O2 (Family and I) was picked up by the in-laws via boat at the private beach of our lodge and taken for a stroll along the lake to Garwoods. The anticipation of lunch was building as we rode along the beautiful blue of Lake Tahoe. We arrived right on time at the dock and did not step foot in the restaurant. We were immediately seated at our table out on the deck. The lunchtime temperature was 75 with sun shinning happily. I orderd the Tommy Morning Wood which was a rum floated shake like beverage. Tasty indeed! I may have even got'n a buzz... Ordered shrimp tacos which was the special for the day, pretty tasty! The kids were all elated to get what they wanted and based on their consumption, food for kidz is spot on! Would I eat there again... Yes! What will you do? Cheers, O

So I ordered the swordfish. You would think that $40 bucks for a maybe 10oz of fish would be amazing, but it's was sad, no flavor and dry! I had better swordfish at TGI Fridays in Japan! BTW my friend ordered med rare steak, it came out with one half being rare and the other well, guess they figured by combining the two it will make med rare.

I love this place. Love, love, love. The food is yummy, you outside deck is the most glorious place to sit and hang out on a sunny, warm summer afternoon and the Wet Woodys are DELICIOUS! I've had the fish tacos, cheeseburger, sliders and fries, quesadilla and the coconut prawns. I loved them all equally. I have never had any issue with any food, service or drinks there. Ever. And I've been quite a few times so my statistic sampling is pretty good. Anyone complaining about price - umm...touristy place RIGHT on Lake Tahoe. Most like-places are priced the same. Get over it. Want cheap? Go elsewhere - no big deal. I have never eaten inside so can't speak to the dining room. Nor have I ever come in the winter so I have no idea if it's any different. But I need to come here often in the perfect warm, sunny Tahoe weather :)

Great view, good atmosphere. Little bit expensive, but the bacon-wrapped filet and the Wet Woody were great. Good Tahoe experience

Three stars because our waitress informed us of happy hour and then when the check came there were no happy hour prices. So two appetizers and three drinks came to $78. When we inquired about happy hour we were told it is seasonal ~ not until November. There is even a permanent "happy hour" sign affixed to the entrance. So beware. Having said that, the food and service is quite good.

  • Tammy S.

Since good dining options are limited in the Tahoe area, I like Gar Woods for their view and decent food. I really only go for the Wet Woody's though. $5.95 can't be beat during their happy hour from 4-6pm. I've had their zucchini sticks, tomato bisque with grilled cheese crouton special (if they have it, order it! Yum!), and the french dip. I wouldn't go running back for any of the food items, mostly because of the price, but if I need something to soak up some WW's, then sign me up!

Such a waste of a great space. Great vintage pictures and views, but the food is 2 steps below mediocre. I try this place about once every 7 years...wanting to believe it might be worth it. Went last night... Same as always. The menu could use a serious updating. My rib eye, which was pretty good, came with marinated and roasted potatoes that were inedible. Why eff up potatoes!? The Caesar salad had no anchovies, but had sun dried tomatoes. If you think this isn't incongruous, you may love this place.

Get a wet woody, but get it for 1/2 price ($5 instead of $9) during happy hour, wet woody wednesdays, or north.shore nights (fridays). By far my favorite place to go in all of Tahoe. This place is a timeless classic, as I am 30 and I'm sure people twice my age have been enjoying this jewel on the lake for far longer than me. If you sit down in the dining room you will enjoy a delicious (albeit pricy) meal, or you can enjoy libations and appetizers in the bar area (or patio when weather permits). A MUST-GO if you are ever in north shore.

  • Al H.

Bar is very nice with a great view of the lake and very good service. The margarita is a house speical and a must have. Very good. Also good beer on tap selection.

Heard this was a must go to place and I guess I could see that for a summer stop, but in dead of winter, nah. Don't go. Food was typical bar/grill food. Nothing exceptional. The mood was good, the staff was friendly, but just okay.

I've kinda been a GarWoods regular since '95. Back then, I'd flip for their garlic pasta. These days, I'm keen on the ahi appetizer and the Wet Woodys. When I worked at the marina down the street, I would usually end up at GarWoods every Wednesday (that's Wet Woody Wednesday), cos that's basically the only day when those rum/schnapps Slurpees are somewhat affordable. Insist they're served to you in the glass - for some reason, they've been trying to pull that plastic cup crap lately. GarWoods definitely caters to the gapers (tourists), and the food - save for the ahi - is nowhere near amazing. Prices are insane. The owner is usually lurking around (look for the guy with the bowl cut and short shorts) but he doesn't seem to do much except shake hands, buy more boats, and buy more properties (took over the Bar of America last summer). There's no point drinking there unless you wanna tie up your boat, have a big-time dinner, or go sip some Woodys. Go to CB's across the street for better beer and better everything.

  • Assaf B.

The location is beautiful, one of the best views you can get for a brunch or dinner in Tahoe, but the food is over priced and the famous wet woodies are just a too cold smoothie with alcohol. Come for the view and don't expect too much from the restaurant

    (3)
  • Lisa H.

We went to Garwoods after hearing about the Wet Woods, thankfully we went on a Wednesday so the signature drink was $5. We also got the prickly pear Wet Woody, which was $9 during happy hour?! The waitress had said that the other Wet Woody's on the menu were only a $1-$2 more than the signature drink...more like $4 more?! We asked how much it would have been if had not been Wed and she said $13. The drinks were tasty, but ridiculously high priced. The food prices were not much better. We ordered the sliders and the shrimp. The sliders came without any fries(?) and there were only 3 sliders on the plate, if you wanted cheese it was $1.50 more. There were free peanuts while you waited, but I lost my appetite for peanuts after I saw one of the waitresses grab the leftover peanuts on the table next to us and dump the remainder back into the peanut barrel.

Wow. Seems as if 1/2 of San Francisco frequents Gar Woods on any given night of the week. Not saying that's a bad thing, it just makes the bar & restaurant extremely crowded. My husband and I visited Gar Woods a few times during a recent trip to Tahoe, mostly for drinks. The bartender was always kept hopping by a steady stream of orders from people not willing to let go of their buzz. As well they shouldn't. Well drinks are made on the small side and are pricey, though this is Tahoe people! The libations did contain respectable amounts of sauce, however. Several of their appetizers are yummy and should be ordered without delay - calimari, fish tacos, etc. The restaurant's piece de resistance comes on Wednesdays when they roll out "Wet Woody Wednesdays." $5.50 for their signature drink - the Wet Woody - all day long. This equals a great deal b/c on any other day of the week, they're a whopping $12! For those not familiar, a Wet Woody is a blended rum drink with a floater of rum. They can catch up with you if you're not careful. The outside patio provides spectacular views and vistas of the mountains and the lake, they feature a pier for patrons to walk out on, park their boats, take pics, etc. and there's an upstairs room with floor to ceiling windows, perfect for private events.

Been going here for years but last night I had my first Wet Woodie. Great drink if you like fruity drinks. Mrs. And I both have small appetites so we just ate off the appetizer menu. Lobster bisque, Caesar salad and cocoanut prawns. The prawns are one of my favorites here. Crispy with a great sauce. Lobster bisque very flavorful. I'll be back.

Spent a very pleasant Sunday evening at Gar Woods on the patio overlooking beautiful Lake Tahoe - what could be better. Great location and stunning view. It was quite quiet for a warm Sunday night so we had no problem getting a front row table over the beach and water. The food was excellent (Grilled Salmon, Aussie Lamb Chops and Scallops) and the service was very good. Like most good Tahoe restaurants, Gar Woods is very expensive and over-priced by Bay Area standards. However, that is Tahoe pricing. We will be back

Great view. Felt like my lakehouse actually. (Snotty, I know). Food isn't anything special. Again, it's the view that makes Garwoods.

The best on the water restaurant experience on Lake Tahoe. Gar Wood Grill menu has something for everyone. The food is well prepared and served warm to the table. The atmosphere is energetic with priceless views of Lake Tahoe. Parking your car can be a challenge on busy weekends but keep looking and you will always find a spot. There is a wide variety of their famous "wet woody" drinks that will meet everyone's taste. This is a must stop on any trip to the Lake Tahoe area. If you have a boat, you can arrive by water and the water taxi will get you to the pier in front of the restaurant.

What can I say, what you see is what you get...and then some! The best deck on north lake, hands down, and really good food! Loved my scallops and chile relleno/crab starter! Make sure you get a res during the busy season and have some patience with your server, they are working hard while you are relaxing & drinking cocktails!

Nice views of the water and very casual lakeside dining. Great rum cocktail list (you feel like you're on vacation in Jamaica with the number of tropical drinks available) and fun, upbeat atmosphere. Service was really friendly but way too rushed with very little time between ordering and receiving them and almost no time in between appetizer and entree. The pacing was pretty frenetic and along the lines of what I'd expect at an Applebee's -- not exactly what you want when you're there to have a romantic dinner and enjoying a beautiful lakeside view (and paying $17 for a sandwich). The food was mediocre at best, in some cases outright bad. The crab cakes were okay although a little heavy on the breading rather than the crab meat. The chicken sandwich and fries were actually bad - this might be one of the worst chicken sandwiches I've had in years. The seafood pasta was meh - generous portions, but far from gourmet. I wanted better from this place! It has all of the right things...great deck on the water, a friendly staff, a fun atmosphere...but between the really mediocre food, high prices for the value, and chaotic "kids running everywhere" vibe it needs some improvement. I would definitely go back for lunch and try more of their "pub" food and less of their higher end seafood, but wouldn't drop the money on dinner again. Alternatively, I'd just go for drinks and apps and sit at the bar. For a place with relatively expensive entrees it is very kid friendly which depending on your situation might be a pro or a con. We had a table full of wild, misbehaving kids who were screaming and running around behind us and stomping breadsticks into the deck and the bathroom was full of diapers - ew.

The food was fabulous and the service was timely, despite the fact it was a very busy night. The wine by the glass is pricey but bottle prices are reasonable. This lake-side dining option is upscale - but worth the extra cost.

My 2 very different visits to Garwood's: 1.) My family of 4 had a fantastic dinner here for my sister's birthday! Garwoods you impressed my dad and I am not sure how you did it either, because he is one difficult man. He once told a restaurant waitress that he would not feed the meal he ordered to his dog. Yes, he is that man. A tad outspoken but also difficult to impress. Never says anything is good, just that it is merely ok. So, let's be honest most of the stars are coming from him. I was also very impressed. My meal was incredibly good! I usually do not order fish but from the description of the meal I was drawn to the swordfish. It was prepared and served up with avocado and cheesy polenta. It was really good and I ate everything on my plate. My mom got the filet, which I tried a bite of. It was delish and melted in my mouth. My sister and dad both thoroughly enjoyed what they ordered as well. Our waiter was sweet, put up with our family jokes, and most importantly recommended the mocha crunch cake for dessert! Thanks Braden for that recommendation, it was incredibly good! He also took a family picture of us as we were leaving the place. Too sweet. 2.) My sister and her friends and I went for happy hour! The appetizers were delicious, we drank some famous Wet Woodys, and basked in the sun on the beautiful deck with gorgeous views of the lake. Delightful! Can't wait to visit again!

Perfect location, lovely patio on the water, it has be good, right? Well, it's not stellar. My husband's coworkers raved about the place, and so we had to try it. I had the Effen Cucumber drink, which was pretty tasty and refreshing, not overly sweet, that's the only reason I'm giving it 2 stars. I had crab cakes. If there was crab in there, it was maybe a flicker or two, mostly cake, and not that flavorful. Disappointing. The mango jicama salsa was pretty tasty, but hell, anyone can make that. The food just tasted like cheap, frozen from a bag fare. Oh, and it was pricey - which I normally don't mind, but not for substandard food. I guess the Wet Willy menu attracts some people, but it was just over-the-top gimmicky drink menu, with a few gems scattered through it. Probably won't come back, even though it was a great location.

As others have said, the location and view of the lake are great, but that doesn't make up for insultingly overpriced, mediocre quality food and service. We went because someone had told us about the drinks... I got an $18 French dip that was 50%+ fat and my wife got a $16 burger that was under-cooked and more of what you would expect on half price burger night at your local dive bar. Needless to say we won't be making that mistake again.

Food and service was terrible on a weekday afternoon. Overpriced for the quality, quantity, and overall experience. I wouldn't eat there again.

We were a party of seven and sat out on the patio... great view, atmosphere was good and our waiter was attentive with a good personality. We had a nice cross section of types of dishes, their burger, seared ahi, halibut, filet mignon, and rib-eye. We thought the food was good, but not exceptional. In other words we didn't really feel it was worth the price tag.

I have never actually driven here or eaten dinner. Arriving by boat and having a Wet Woody or two simply cannot be beat after a day on the lake with great friends. Finger food at the bar is good. Drinks are awesome. After this visit a few days ago my friends and I now have a new goal to work our way down the list of wet woody variations. Only pitchers count. 3 down and a whole lot more to go! I guess we'll have to plan our next visit sooner than later. Garwoods is a Tahoe institution that is not to be missed.

    (4)
  • Tami S.

The view is exceptional the food not so much. Average food way over priced but the view makes it all better. Had a Cobb salad and the tomatoes were downright disgusting. Rib appetizer was unappealing looking the meat was dry and taste less. Little to no sauce. Pomegranate cosmo was good but on the small size for $12. I would go back for the view but not the food.

  • Steven P.

The location is absolutely five stars. Unfortunately, our lunch was barely edible. The "special" spicy shrimp tacos were overspiced, served with token shredded cabbage and on cold tortillas. The Caesar with chicken had some fresh greens, institutional dressing and tasteless chicken. Go for drinks.

  • Xiaoteng M.

I came here for lunch with my friend on our day off of work. I don't have enough good things to say about this place... the view was amazing, the staff was friendly, the food was fantastic, the drinks alone were worth the drive from Reno. I ordered the Fish & Chips, as well as 4 different types of their famous "Wet Woody" drinks. The bill wasn't cheap, but totally worth it.

    (4)

Ice cold Stella in a big ice cold glass - burger, best $20 American dollars can buy. The bar is cool and the dining area is on the upscale side. Choose your pleasure.

We swung by here for drinks and appetizers one night. Good drinks, acceptable appetizers. We ordered crab cakes (which were fine, with a little unexpectedly pleasant spice) and steamed clams, but a few of them weren't opened. Live music is always a plus - and for as lively as it was, the service was pretty good. Con, though - 2 drinks and 2 appetizers was nearly $70. I wasn't expecting to get out super cheap (it is Lake Tahoe), but that was a pretty substantial price for what we had.

I couldn't even begin to tell you about anything memorable from Garwoods other than the FILTHY conditions! The bathroom was nasty and dirty and under the tables there was old food & dirt stick to the table bases, and not just ours I checked most of them and they were all that way. Seems to me that such an "upscale" restaurant would pay a little more attention to detail and hygienic conditions. Oh yeah, the view was terrific but isn't every view of the lake that way??

    (2)
  • Christine R.

Garwoods is an amazing restaurant in view, food & service. We were there a few weeks ago and had a large party and they were so accommodating. Smiles all around and the steak and lobster was SCRUMPTIOUS! The owner is super kind hearted and it's apparent that he hires the same. Thank you Garwoods for making Little Pink's experience so memorable!

Went here for lunch yesterday and man, this place was terrible. WAY overpriced for sub par food, a complete and total disappointment. I got the french dip sliced steak sandwich with fries. The sandwich came with a creamy horseradish sauce, sauteed onions and a side of Au Jus. First off, the sandwich was small and for $17 bucks that is unacceptable. The meat was decent as were the onions but the horseradish sauce was lousy. No tang or bite whatsoever, it may as well have been mayo. The Au Jus was an utter abomination straight from the depths of hell. It was a small dish of pure oil and grease, no flavor at all, dipping my sandwich in it actually made the meal worse. I resorted to ketchup in an attempt to salvage my lunch. The fries were the highlight of the meal which isn't saying much. Cap this off with a totally inflated price tag, mediocre service and a rather noisy atmosphere and Gar Woods is one place to avoid at all costs while visiting the lake Tahoe area. I should have gone with my gut and left when I saw the absurd prices for simple lunch meals.

HOW Stiff Was Your WOODY? That's the question of the day at Gar Wood's. It's in reference to the World Famous Wet Woody the signature drink at Gar Woods. Every summer we go to Tahoe to get away with some friends, and no trip is complete without the daily boat ride over to Gar Woods to get a pitcher of Wet Woody's and a table full of apps. My favorite app is the Caprese Shooter! OMG it is so freaking good, I don't know where to start explaining. Just get a few for the table for sure! The Mahi Mahi Fish tacos are no joke as well! Gar Woods has a great view, friendly staff, and goooood food! What else are you looking for on a sunny afternoon? Get in there!

4 stars for the AMAZING brunch we had here 3 stars for the Wet Woody AKA 3.5 :) Came here for a post-wedding brunch that occupied the entire upper level of this popular lake-side restaurant. We were able to explore the deck facing the lake. Because we were a special event, the food was set up buffet style with a person making made-to-order omelettes. I dove in head first with the french toast, the waffles and the eggs benedict. Everything was super delicious. The benedict was PERFECT. The right amount of hollandaise and wasn't super sour. There was also smoked salmon and bagels/croissants in addition to fruit and mini 7-layer bars for "dessert." The meats were this really attractive sausage (that I regret not trying) and delicious bacon that was perfect, hot and crispy. The Woodys on the other hand... woo-ee.. Maybe it was too early in the morning, but either way, those drinks are outta control. I ordered the Raspberry one hoping to mask the 151 and the rum taste with something sweet. Boy, was I wrong. That thing was not only strong but way too much! The drink was so overwhelming... I think I was better off ordering a mimosa to go with my scrumptious brunch. Nice little place, good food.. just watch out for those woodys!

Nice lake side view..... Popular so reservations in advance. Food is OK (not the best; not the worse) You come for the views of Lake Tahoe We went Memorial Day Weekend expecting sun (its snowing) but still pretty. Place has a respectable beer, wine and bar drinks.

I absolutely love Gar Woods! Fun spot, good food, beautiful view. The owner and employees are nice and fun. You can make it casual or go dressed up, that's what nice about it. You can make it a family outing or go on a nice date. If you want to eat cheap food, there are some less pricey items on the menu and you can sit on the bar side. For those who want to utilize the fact they are sitting in Carnelian Bay, with lakefront dining - you might as well enjoy it and get some delicious food and drinks. Make a reservation - they get booked very quickly! Enjoy.

The Orange-Soy Glazed Ahi was good and going for an early 5:00 PM dinner in between seasons the place was dead quiet. Service was good and the view from on the deck on a wonderful spring day certainly added to the overall experience. Bottom line, we were happy with the experience though looking back on just the food I would say you can definitely find better value elsewhere.

Last night, a Friday night, my sister and her husband invited us for a little evening boat trip and we ended up valeting our boat at Garwood's and had dinner there. It was a beautiful evening, and we enjoyed a variety of wet woodies. These are very tasty, but be aware that they are clearly on the pricey side, near $10 each. Don't get me wrong, they taste great, but a decent bottle of wine goes for the same price as a round of these for four. We had three beef dishes and a fish dish. All were excellent. My dish, the bacon wrapped fillet, was particularly good. It was cooked the way I like it and served with blue cheese on top of the steak. It was decedent and I enjoyed every bite. I'm going for a bike ride this morning out of the belief that I can redeem myself for my choices last night. It may not work, but it's worth a try. We also had four deserts, and I ended up eating mine and half of my wife's. They were both good, but hers was over the top. She ordered the "It's It", and what they do here is take the already packaged "It's It", put it on a plate and then adorn it with some hot fudge and whipped cream. It was work to help her finish this off, but work worth doing. My desert, the pineapple upside down cake, was very good. I'd probably order mine again, and not hers, as it was very very rich, and, as you can tell from reading this far, I'm not into that.... The menu also included many items that were more reasonably priced (burgers) than the ones that we selected, and so there are some things for everybody. Anyway, this is a fun stop, and you can't go wrong having a dinner here on the shores of Lake Tahoe on a beautiful Friday night. Life is way too short to sweat the price tag.

Horrible, just horrible. This restaurant used to have the most awesome burgers, great drinks and great service. Now, the food is bland. I ordered the chicken with peaches and couscous, and was seriously underwhelmed by the lack of any flavor. If you want $30 worth of plain chicken, Gar Woods is the place to be. Furthermore, the size of the world famous Wet Woody cocktail has been downsized from a full cocktail. Instead of paying $6.50 for a full glass, I paid for a small plastic cup. The service was the slowest I have witnessed in years. I had to go to the hostess' stand to grab menus while trying to grab my waitress's attention as she took the order of the table who was seated after me. Overall, if you enjoy over priced food and drinks, and lousy service, I highly recommend Gar Woods.

Can you say "Tourist Trap"? So bummed we ate here. I feel like I gained five pounds for no reason! The food was just ok, but not worth the $$$$ they are asking for. Next time I will make sure I eat somewhere else. Super Loud, Super Packed, and the staff just does not give a sh@t. D

What do you order from a place known for the Wet Woodys? A Wet Woody of course! I stuck with the basic one, but there is a menu of several different varieties you can choose from. The drink is dangerous, simple as that, a grown up slurpee according to the friends I was enjoying lunch with! Since I had to drive I was only able to drink half of mine because it is potent! I also ordered a crab sandwich which was fine, more mayonnaise than I cared for but good flavor. The deck is beautiful to sit and enjoy your food and drinks while you do some people watching. A great find for lunch on the lake!

I come to Gar Woods all the time with family when up in Tahoe and always have a great experience. Word to the wise: the Woody drinks in any variation are awesome! Favorite? Rock Hard Woody. Now take a moment and visualize my boyfriend having to order that in front of my entire family. Priceless. Buyer beware though while they taste like a trip to the islands they will get you!!! Those babies are strong. Aside from drinks I find the food at Gar Woods to be very enjoyable! The French Onion Soup is an awesome starter or addition to any meal. Deck Favorite Salads are huge and can certainly be your entire meal! I had the Scallops last night and they were delicious! My only issue with the food is that they use tons of sauces and butter especially on the fish. Next time, I'll ask for no sauce, so it shouldn't be a problem. They're very nice about allowing substitutions (like extra veggies rather than potatoes, etc.) Oh yeah and did I mention that they have FRIED OREOS on their dessert menu? Served with vanilla ice cream....save even just enough room for a bite of those bad boys! Service is super friendly, and while on the laid back and slower side it's what you need to brace yourself for in this area of the lake. No need to be in a rush around here so don't let it bother you. Grab a friend, get a Wet Woody and have a good time. Ha!

The view is the best!!! The place is nice, the food is good, but the view is to die for! We had a group of 8 for a bday lunch/drinks and at first we sat on the great patio. Then it began pouring rain and we had to move inside. I ordered the bbq quesadilla and it was just ok. A friend ordered the fries - they are very crunchy. They were very nice and gave the birthday girl a slice of ice cream pie for free. We also got the fried oreos - they were way better than expected.

Always great food and drink. Had the seafood bowl. A little pricey at 40.00 but you cannot beat a sunset on lake tahoe. Great place for friends and t gf at special someone,

This was my first time up to Gar Woods. I haven't been to Tahoe in many years, so someone suggested we go here for lunch. First off, the views are spectacular, and you'll want a table outside if you can get one. However, make sure you go to the hostess stand INSIDE first, because there was a bit of confusion when we arrived. Outside in the patio, there was a hostess who told us we could sit wherever we wanted, so we found a great table and sat down, surprised we could find a table this good with open seating. Two minutes later another hostess came by and said that these tables are reserved. Apparently one side of the patio has open seating, while a hostess will seat you on the other side. Plus, It also took us a good five minutes to find the hostess stand. But after a few minutes, we got it all cleared up. Apparently we weren't the only ones who were confused, because at least four people tried to sit down and were told they had to go inside first. First off, as the other reviewers said, you have to start with a Woody, their famous cocktail, which comes in many varieties. I ordered the classic, and my was it strong! I had to make an effort not to drink it all at once, because it tasted so good! Our food arrived just in time to fill up my stomach with something other than rum/whatever was in that drink. My husband ordered a bacon cheeseburger and I got the french dip. Both were very well prepared: juicy, flavorful, and plentiful. Of course, we hadn't consumed enough calories by then, so I made us get the deep fried oreos. YUM! They tasted like chocolate donuts; cakey, light and chocolatey. We had to go "digest" on the beach afterwards.

Know that with this place, you're paying for the ambiance not the food. And you're paying dearly! I was shocked at the high prices, especially once we saw what we got for the money. The quality of food was on par with Applebee's or some other bland chain, yet it was about 3 times the price. The service was good and the view was ah-may-zing. I'd skip this place if given the opportunity again!

A Tahoe tradition if you like over priced drinks , fairly solid bar food, off the chart noise and people that think they are great when drunk. On a budget?, eat late lunch at Old Post Office across street and give the ample left overs to the kiddos.

Been going to GW for 25 years. Recently had the worst meal in all that time. Hamburger over cooked. Ask for MR but got WD. Bad bad bad. Have known Tom for years. They will make it just because, but I am disgusted!

Garwoods is a place you want to take somebody if you want to impress them with the view and the cuisine. It is not inexpensive, but you get what you pay for with a breaktaking view of lake tahoe and delicious food. I highly recommend calling ahead for a reservation on the deck, the tables fill up fast. I have to start with an apology, I forgot to take pictures of the appetizer and dessert. We st started with beer battered prawns that were in a demi glaze. So good, the prawns were crunchy and had good flavor, the glaze added a bit of sweetness. We followed that up with a cup of french onion soup we both shared. This was the best, creamy, oniony, and cheesey soup i have ever had. If you are a chesse lover this soup is for you. My entree consisted of a 7oz filet and shrimp, and my wife ordered the swordfish with risotto. The filet was cooked to perfection, served on top of mashed potatoes and with two spears of asparagus. Accompanying the filet were three shrimp that e ere sauteed in butter and garlic. My wifes swordfish was huge. Easily could be two meals. The flavor was fantastic. Next to the fish was the risotto. I have never heard my wife say so often, this risotto is heavenly. So now i know another favorite other than twizzlers. Hopefully when we go to heaven they will have the french onion soup and risotto. The last course was dessert, and that was heavenly to. We ordered the mocha ice cream cake with oreo cookie crust, and sprinkled with toffee. It was delish. We will definitely be back for a special occasion. Oh,and ask for haley, she was a fantastic waitress.

Our favorite meal on our trip to Lake Tahoe! We came at 5:30 on a Friday and got a table on the deck with a great view of the lake as soon as we got there. The deck seating is first come seating, nice to get a seat so quickly. We started out with the famous Wet Woodys which met and went above all expectations! Worth the $15 per drink for sure. For food we started with the BBQ chicken quesadilla on the deck menu, this was very good! Hands down the best I have had. It has a jalapeño/poblano pesto and then paired with the BBQ sauce it had great flavor! After that we had planned to head on down the road for dinner but our first dish was so good we decided to stay for dinner on the deck. We shared the fish tacos which were also very good! Worth the price and view to stop!

Great cocktails (love the prickly pear woodie!) but food is incredibly overpriced and tastes fairly average. Great view from the deck though!

Great lakeside location for arriving by boat and a beautiful view. The food is average. Go for drinks/appetizers and skip the meal.

Came here for breakfast, but they only have 4 breakfast items: French toast, egg sandwich, crab cake bene + huevos rancheros. So not a spot if you're looking for a variety. I had crab cake bene and it was delicious! The egg sandwich is also good, but is you like your egg runny speak up because it comes well done.

You go to Garwoods for 2 things. 1-The View. 2-The drinks. Stick to this plan and you'll be a happy camper. If you are felling peckish then I would hit the appetizer menu. The deviled eggs are pretty tasty-although the temperature of them always leads me to believe they were sitting in a fridge for a few days. They are tasty but that level of cold doesn't happen if they are "fresh". The fries are really good, the batter they use is quite tasty and if you ask for ranch they bring you this adorable mini mug full of it. The rest of the menu is hit or miss, sometimes I am pleased others are meh. Most recently I had the lobster bisque and it was just too rich. I also asked for some bread to accompany my soup (who doesn't love to dunk?) and the bread I was brought can only be compared to the cheapest store brand french bread you can think of. No real consistency or flavour. Very sad. My advise: Get a Designated Driver and a Wet Woody and sit on the patio enjoying the breathtaking view of Lake Tahoe. You will not be disappointed.

All we had here were a couple of drinks we had the special Garwoods drink with Myers rum float. They were pretty pricey but very good. The service was excellent the drink was excellent the price a little bit high in my opinion.

No trip to this side of the lake is complete without a Gar Woods sesh. I recommend ordering personal stiff woody pitchers for each member in your squad. Afterward, its always fun to go down on the beach and hang out by the water.

Beautiful place. VERY PACKED. Usually an indicator of an amazing dining experience right? My father said to the waitress "May we please get some of the bread sticks and butter as well?" Smiling and in no way meaning offense. The waitress acted as if it was a stupid question. And informed us she'd bring them with the drinks. It was just the tone. As I said beautiful location so that wasn't on the fore front of my mind. I decided on the Filet and Scampi. After having DELICIOUS Crabcakes. FULL OF DELICIOUS CRAB. It was incredible. Amazing flavors, slight heat. Awesome dressed up eggs. The drinks were incredible. I'm not of legal age yet. However, I greatly enjoyed the Virgin Mojito, and Cherry Lemonade. But when it came to the Filet and Scampi. The Filet had Way too much blue cheese flavor. It was sickening. Presentation was beautiful though. The scampi was rubbery and tough to eat. And the spinach and tomatoes didn't really go well with the flavors of the steak. I understand it comes together. But the flavors in your mouth just really don't mix. The potatoes were almost soupy. Also. My father ordered the Halibut and it came back way over cooked. Rubbery and somewhat crunchy he sent his back. However I don't enjoy sending my food back. I ordered it. It was cooked well. Steak a bit overdone. I just felt like the flavors of the shrimp and the steak clashed. Overall I liked it. Just the entree made me feel nauseous. I was very hungry and didn't want to wait for something else. Loved the experience it was my Great Grandpa's 80th Birthday party. Overall it's a nice place. Just reconsider the blue cheese on the steak. :)

Got what I expected, a $20-$25 meal for $55 out the door, with crappy service and an awesome view...food was better than I expected, which earned that 3rd star (great fish n chips, loved the beer-battered fries, wifey loved the bacon cheeseburger) With a low value/service expectation, the food and view are possibly worth the trip....possibly...

Amazing view, top notch staff, great for kids, delicious food, one of a kind drinks, clean. My husband and I were on the search for all of the above when we decided to give this Tahoe gem a try. We were not super impressed by the 3.5 star overall reviews but luckily I had a local tell me I ought to give it a try. Thankfully, we were not let down at all. First off, we had a server by the name of Amy who completely nailed it! She was friendly, quick and had great overall knowledge of items on the menu... Describing each as if she had given them a try. She was a great multi-tasker and never once kept us waiting for a thing. You rock Amy! Next, the outside deck. If you are looking for a place to take it all in- as in the amazing view of Lake Tahoe- this is your spot. On a clear day you can spot Heavenly from across the lake. Pair this view with the infamous Wet Willy beverage and vacation does not get better than this! My husband and I both ordered their famous alcoholic beverage called a Wet Willy. I was a little skeptical after hearing the description with all the different (and strong!) alcohols in it. I let my husband order first and after trying his out I had to have one! It is the perfect balance of alcohol, iciness and sugar. Super delicious and hits the spot on a hot day! Next, my husband ordered the prime rib. Let me tell you something... Worth every penny. It was the hugest cut of prime rib I have ever seen served! Delicious too! (See photos) We ordered my one year old daughter the buttered noodles and she went to town on those. I had a special- the lamb shanks. The lamb had some sort of mint demi-glaze and was served with mashed potatoes. It was everything you would expect in lamb and cooked to your requested temperature. After dinner we took our daughter on a short stroll down their public pier and soaked in one last look of the beautiful view. It was surely a perfect meal. We most definitely will be returning and highly recommend GarWood's if you are in the Tahoe area.

Ok so this is a nice waterfront place to dine. We went after the thunderbird tour. It is a little pricey but what we had was delicious. Our kid had cheese sticks (not the best lunch but hey) and they were good with a decent amount. The wife had Cesar salad which she said was good. I had fish n chips the fish was very good (only slightly oily as they are deep fried but minimal compared to most placed) and the fries were cooked perfect. Came with agile slaw that was interesting and had green apple in it. Our waitress was the bomb

The best thing about this place is the view. You can't beat it. Pretty much every seat in the restaurant has a view, even if you are seated inside, they open the doors so fresh air comes in. It's really a good looking restaurant and vibe. We sat outside on the patio. It was a gorgeous evening, couldn't have asked for better weather! The food is mediocre, I wouldn't say it's horrible, but it's definitely pricey for what it is. We dined at a very nice restaurant the night before and Gar Wood's prices were about the same. Kind of shocking, as the food is no where near the quality. We shared: - Salmon Nicoise Salad (Pretty good, I am not sure if the fish is fresh (Probably frozen) but it was cooked well and the salad was perfectly dressed. Good portion.) - Coconut Shrimp Appetizer (Shrimp were a little chewy, but the batter was good.) - Ahi Appetizer (I was surprised to find a bunch of sticky rice on the plate, kind of strange. I would have preferred more of the wonton chips and no rice. Fish was good, but surprised there was no avocado in with it.) - Effen Martini - LOL love the name (brand of Vodka), martini's were well made, but pricey. $13 each I think. I would return to Gar Wood's for the ambiance, maybe for a couple cocktails, and go somewhere else for dinner.

I just want to say location location location. This place has a great view of the lake and that alone is an incentive to make your way here. We had the famous wet woody and this did not disappoint. I had the fish tacos and it lacked flavor. The fish is fresh and plenty but the rest of it needed some spices and maybe a better sauce. I wouldn't order this again. My daughter ordered the lobster bisque soup. This was a little on the cheesy side almost like a cheese fondue soup with a slight essence of lobster. Very disappointing. Now on to the positives. The crab chili relleno was very good! Lots of flavor and well prepare. I would definitely order this next time. The fried zucchini sticks is a wonderful start too. So all and all I would return here I would cocktail-up enjoy the view and get the chili relleno. Service was awesome!

If Michelin stars could be awarded for scenery, Gar Woods would probably rival The French Laundry in terms of acclaim. You pay to sit on a patio with a panoramic view of Lake Tahoe, then walk out on the dock and snap a picture later. The food? You probably pay double for it than you would in a similar setting because of the view. Yet you sit there, eating a $20 burger that is imminently forgettable and drinking a Wet Woody, and what should be a two-star review becomes a three-star review. It's an experience worth having once. Emphasis on once.

My husband & I stopped here on recommendation of my sister. I was starving as it was after 2 & we hadn't had anything since breakfast. It took a little wait for our server to arrive but once he did he was extremely attentive & helpful! I ordered the shrimp & lobster bisque - fabulous, think, creamy & flavorful. We also ordered the original Wet Woody. Oh boy! That is a deliciously dangerous drink! (Ended up with 2 before we left.) After asking Johnny, our server, his opinion on the fish tacos & fish & chips, we decided to go with both & share. I must say the fish & chips were probably some of the best I've ever had. The fish pieces were huge, the batter thin but perfect crunch! The fish tacos had plenty of flavor, & again there were big pieces of fish in the tortillas. While the price for our meal was a bit high for lunch, we have absolutely no complaints. We will not complain about the price for such a wonderful meal. We also recommend Johnny as a server, who gave us recommendations of other great restaurants around the lake.

We haven't been here for years due to vacations in Napa Valley. However, lunch on the deck today was excellent. We both had the red snapper fish tacos and they were good, especially paired with draft beers. Our server, Taylor, was first class all the way: personable, helpful and attentive! We'll be back!

Went here last week and was offended by the prices on the menu. Absolutely ridiculous! I mean higher than much better restaurants in San Francisco! Go for the Wet Woody's and go some where else to eat! The food is ok but not worth the money wahtsoever.........

We made reservations two weeks ago for 8 PM the Sunday night of Labor Day weekend and requested the deck or a window seat. We arrived at 7:45 PM only to to be told they were running 30 minutes behind schedule and they could not offer the deck or window. We drove about 30 minutes only to be disappointed by their poor service and bad attitude. We planned ahead knowing it would be a busy evening but, unfortunately, Gar Woods did not do a good job of planning their operations. I've eaten there many times - primarily for lunch and drinks on the deck. It will be a long time before I give them another try.

The food was expensive but it was delicious. It was very busy when we went, so our waiter took a while, but he was a good waiter. It was noisy and very crowded and we had to wait about 20 minutes. If I could, I'd probably give it 3.5 stars but 4 is good. I'd recommend getting the clams. It's a big portion that comes with garlic bread, and when split between a large group- isn't so expensive.

My husband and I had a date night here while on vacation in Incline Village. A bit pricey but a very lively atmosphere, great view, and yummy food & cocktails. My husband said the wet woody was really good. He also enjoyed his filet & lobster. I had the conchiglie pasta (even though paying $30+ for pasta seemed a little ridiculous to me). It was so good. We shared the coconut prawns as an appetizer. Those were tasty too. Most expensive meal we've had in a while, but well worth the splurge. Service was great also.

The view gets two stars but you could just stay in the parking lot and have a better experience. Don't believe the hype on this place, the food is over priced and not good. If you need a beer to wash down the bad food plan on paying too much and waiting too long.

Loved that place right in the lake. Service was good and efficient and the burger was actually yummy. Didn't try to tacos but they look pretty good too. Main attraction there is the view. You just cannot stop looking at the lake . And with a drink in hand it is just paradise. That the place is the right place to stop en just relax, seat back, and enjoy the show

Gar Woods is one of the real nice restaurants right on the shores of Lake Tahoe that has a pier for you to tie up to if you arrive by boat. One of the main reasons we picked Gar Woods is because of the pier since we arrive by boat for an early sort of lunch. There weren't too many other boats taking up space at the dock this early, but we were not exactly inconspicuous in this rumbling big boat. We tie up (or whatever boat people call parking) and go in. The host notices we arrived by boat and small talk ensues as we are seated with a nice view of the lake. Our server arrives in short order and takes our drink orders. We have 4 in our party. They have this drink call the "Wet Woody" here. Yeah, we all know what that eludes to, but we still pass. Me and Cuz get Cosmo's and the guys get Mai Tai's. I just love this weather up here sitting outside. I could get used to this life! Looking over the menu, I see Dungeness Crab Cakes ($19). That being one of my fave appetizers, I order that to share. None of the other appetizers looked too interesting. For lunch I had the Fish and Chips ($19), Cuz had the Prime Rib French dip ($19) and our two BFs had the BBQ Bacon Burgers ($20). All the sandwiches came with fries. Our server was right there when we needed refills on the drinks. Everyone except the boat driver has a second round. Good to have a sober boat driver! The crab cakes arrive first. There are 4 cakes that just happen to work out well with 4 people eating. YUMMERS! were these crab cakes good! Good crabby taste and not all dried out like some are. This was a good way to start lunch! Our lunch food arrives and it's a very nicely presented. My Fish and Chips looked, well like fish and chips, no big surprise there. My BF's burger looked really good, like can I have a bite? The meat on the burgers is suppose to be ground filet Mignon, but on my one bite, I don't think I could tell any difference between this and a normal quality burger. He liked it though. The Prime Rib French Dip my Cuz had, looked good, but she said she'd of liked more meat ..... that girl can always take more meat! She liked her French Dip, I could tell the way she was drenching it in the juice and slurping it up as it went into her mouth. My fish and chips were good, not exceptional, but decent. The fish was hot as were the chips and not overly greasy like at a fast food fish and chips place. The guys liked their burgers cause they wolfed them down no prob. The bill comes and we let the guys fight over it. My BF Amexed it, cause Cuz's BF is feeding that gas drinking boat. The place was starting to get crowded as we left. I'd say this is one of the better lakeside dining places with a spectacular view ....even a pier! The prices do reflect lakeside restaurants, so this won't be cheap at all, but if you're on vacy, why not? Go for it! OK, it's back out on the lake for some more fun .... I shudda brought ear plugs!

Clueless management Found a large piece of sharp plastic in my salad. After complaining I got a quick explanation of the cause, and my salad (which I did not eat) was removed from the bill. No real apology or attempt to make it better. I wonder what the outcome would have been if I'd swallowed the darn thing and ended up in the hospital? Management needs better training- I don't know what has me more upset at this point, the plastic or the lack of management IQ in handling the issue.
